Geriatric Emergencies I

By Eileen Dean, MA, MN, MS, RN

This one-hour continuing education course begins with a discussion of the issues surrounding the increased numbers of aging Americans, including the reasons for increased lifespan.  The course continues with current thought regarding the normal physiological and psychological process of aging.  It also provides some current theories about the aging process.  Each of these aspects includes a description of those characteristics of aging and how they impact assessment and care of the elderly.  Finally there is a discussion of assessment and care of specific emergent pathophysiologies of common age-related maladies.
